Eliminate THIS Food #1911

In our last couple +1s (here and here), I shared some inspiring wisdom from Peter Attia’s great book on the art and science of living better longer called Outlive.

After creating those +1s, I went back to working on the Note.

Then I typed out this blurb that will make it into the sidebar of the Notes:

“If there is one type of food that I would eliminate from everyone’s diet if I could, it would be fructose-sweetened drinks, including both sodas and fruit juices, which deliver too much fructose, too quickly, to a gut and liver that much prefer to process fructose slowly. Just eat fruit and let nature provide the right amount of fiber and water.”

Then I realized I had to come back into Paper (where I create these +1s before I film them and we get them into the app) to create THIS +1.

Why?

Because this is a REALLY BIG IDEA.

Potentially life changing.

For everyone.

ESPECIALLY (!!!) for parents who might think fruit juices are health foods.

Note: THEY’RE NOT.

I repeat:

That echoes some wisdom from Mark Hyman’s great book Food Fix in which he tells us…

“Stop drinking sugary beverages. If you’ve gotten this far, then my next recommendation probably goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: Don’t drink sugar. The best way to reform the food system is to make sugar-laden foods less profitable. If consumers demand healthy products, then eventually companies will have to comply. It’s not just soda. Fruit juice has a health halo. But don’t be fooled by its vitamins and antioxidants. Fruit juice is loaded with sugar and is just as harmful as soda. Avoid buying it, and certainly don’t give it to your children. Cutting sugar-sweetened beverages from your diet is the single-biggest thing you can do to improve your health.”

Although I stay out of the whole nutritional food debate-wars these days, we do have some Heroic Food Rules that apply to ALL nutritional approaches—whether you’re vegan or carnivore or somewhere in between.

The #1 Food Rule is SIMPLE…

Don’t drink sugar.

IN ALL FORMS.

No sodas.

No fruit juices.

PERIOD.

And…

That’s Today’s +1.

You drinking sugar?

How about your kids? (And grandkids?)
