I’m driving with the windows down, listening to Shake It Out by Florence and the Machine, singing like nobody’s watching, and doing the classic hand wave out the window. You know the one. That’s just how I like to do it.
And then this line hit me: “It’s hard to dance with the devil on your back, so shake it off.”
We all have devils on our backs—stress, bad habits, negative thinking, whatever’s weighing us down. And when they cling to us, they’re heavy. They keep us from dancing.
For me, I want to dance in my life.
Yes, literally—and, more importantly, metaphorically. I want to shake that devil off and fully embrace my big life dance.
So, let’s shake it out right now.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Now, think of something weighing on you. Feel that devil on your back. That stress, that doubt, that thing clinging to you.
You got it?
Alright—now open your eyes and shake it off. Imagine shaking that energy right off your back. See it dissolving, dispersing into the air. Feel yourself getting lighter and brighter.
Now—really go for it! Shake, shake, shake! Let your body be free. Shake it out with the intention of stepping into your authentically heroic self.
Breathe. Feel that pulse of life within you.
And remember—you always have the power to shake the devil off your back. You might need to do it hundreds of times a day, and that’s okay. But it’s worth it and you can do it.
Hopefully, you feel a a bit more levity and freedom as you move through your day now.
Remember to have fun today and shake off the stress so your heroic self can rise and your soul force can be supercharged!
