Dare Greatly #72
Ignore the Cheap Seats
Brené Brown tells us: “If you are not in the arena getting your (butt) kicked on occasion, I am not interested in or open to your feedback. There are a million cheap seats in the world today filled with people who will never be brave with their own lives but will spend every ounce of energy hurling advice and judgment at those of us trying to dare greatly.”
Powerful, right?
Now, imagine yourself in the arena—fully engaged, pushing forward, working on something meaningful, even when it’s tough.
And then… there are the voices from the cheap seats—people who aren’t taking risks themselves but seem eager to criticize those who are.
We’ve all faced it. Maybe you’ve heard judgment from people who aren’t walking your path, who don’t know the effort, the courage, the sacrifices you’re making.
It’s easy to get caught up in their opinions, but here’s the truth: Their words hold no weight unless you give them power.
Brené says it clearly—if someone isn’t also putting themselves on the line, their feedback doesn’t matter.
So, instead of listening to the critics, focus on what does matter:
That’s where your energy belongs.
So, next time you hear negativity from the cheap seats, remind yourself: “I am here, doing the work. I am daring greatly.”
Because the ones who truly matter? They’re in the arena with you.
That’s the beauty of our heroic community — everyone here is in the arena, daring greatly, and celebrating and supporting you on your journey.
Keep going. You’ve got this.
