The other day my wonderful Physical Therapist/Peak Performance (Heroic!) Coach, Dr. Julie Beck was doing her thing getting my wrist back in business so I can start hammering out my burpees again.

btw: We’re on track to cut the estimated recovery time in half (as planned). Surgeon said 9 to 12 months. We said 4.5 months. Incremental +1s for the win!!

But…

That’s not the point of Today’s +1.

Today we’re going to talk about Love.

So…

Julie and I were having another one of our wonderful chats when she said that she and her Heroic Coach swim buddy (Ben!) were chatting about Love and that, with all due respect to Barbara Fredrickson, they thought we needed to add a “Love 1.5” right there between Love 1.0 and Love 2.0.

I asked her to tell me more.

But first, quick context for those who may not know what we’re talking about. 🤓

Barbara Fredrickson is one of the world’s leading positive psychologists. (We’ve talked about her in a bunch of +1s and have a Note on her great book Love 2.0.)

In our Heroic Coach training, we talk about Love 0.0, Love 1.0, Love 2.0, and Love 3.0 (as per this +1).

Short story: Love 0.0 is the love we give to ourselves via consistent self-care practices, etc. Love 1.0 is the traditional sense of love we have for super-intimate others like family and close friends. Love 2.0 is for the “micro-moments of positivity resonance” with random people throughout the day that Barbara has shown to be essential to our well-being. Love 3.0 is heroic love and features the encouragement we give to others on their journeys of Optimizing and actualizing.

So…

Love 1.5?

As you’d guess, that fits right between our “1.0” and “2.0”

It’s not quite the Love we have for our most intimate friends and family but it’s way more intimate and enduring than the nice but fleeting micro-moments of positivity we have during the day with people we may never see again.

For example, Coaches have this kind of Love (along with Love 3.0!) with their clients. As do work colleagues, etc.

And, that’s Today’s +1.5.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate all the awesome Love 1.5 people in our lives.

And…

Let’s take a moment to think about how we can more deliberately Love them up a little more Today.

Here’s to a life filled to the brim with all the wonderful varieties of Love.
