The Privilege of Being You #66
Live your life like the rare opportunity it is.
“The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.” — Joseph Campbell.
This is more than just a quote—it’s a powerful truth, a potent healer.
The privilege of a lifetime is being who YOU are.
Every time I hear those words, I feel a deep stirring inside. What would our lives look like if we truly believed this?
I looked up the word privilege, and one definition stood out to me: “Something regarded as a rare opportunity and bringing particular pleasure.”
Yes. Being who we are is a rare opportunity—a once-in-a-lifetime experience that can bring immense joy. It’s not about trying to be like someone else, it’s about fully being you.
This reminds me of the Mr. Rogers poem — It’s You I Like.
“It’s you I like.
It’s not the things you wear,
It’s not the way you do your hair—
It’s you I like.
The way you are right now,
The way deep down inside you,
Not the things that hide you,
Not your toys—
They’re just beside you.
But it’s you I like.
Every part of you—
Your skin, your eyes, your feelings—
Whether old or new.
I hope that you’ll remember
Even when you’re feeling blue—
That it’s you I like.
It’s you, yourself.
It’s you.
It’s you I like.”
So good. Thank you, Mr. Rogers.
What a beautiful reminder—for all of us, at any age.
As you move through your day, remember: It’s you we like.
Live your life like the rare opportunity it is.
Dare to be you.
Because the privilege of a lifetime is being exactly who you are.
