Quick check in, inspired by this week’s new Notes on Gabrielle Lyon’s great book Forever Strong:

How’s your relationship with your future self?

Have you collapsed the distance between now and later, creating a future self that’s stronger than your present by practicing the discipline to work your protocol and do what you say you will do, regardless of how you feel?

Or…

Is your present self stronger than your future self? Borrowing against tomorrow’s (or next decade’s) health and happiness with behaviors in the present that you know aren’t serving you?

Here’s a little exercise Gabrielle shares:

“People often suggest that you visualize what you want and how it will feel when you get it. Here’s what I found works better: do a future projection of what it will cost you if you hang on to your current bad habits. This is incredibly effective. It highlights what you will have to give up if you continue to make negative choice…

Sit in a quiet place and imagine… If you continue these negative practices going forward, what will it cost you in two years? How about four? How about twenty?”

As Brian encourages in the note:

SEE THE EFFECTS on that FUTURE YOU.

Then come back to Today. And MAKE THE CONNECTION between that FUTURE YOU and the choices you’re making all day every day.

2. Sculpt your golden hero

Identify what's holding you back, chip away at it, and allow your golden, Heroic self to shine more brightly.

3. Meet the Trainer: Sarah Maxfield

Sarah’s Heroic journey began with a lifelong passion for understanding human potential and healing. Growing up with parents who struggled with mental illness, Sarah found herself asking profound questions at an early age: Why do good people suffer? How do we overcome obstacles to be at our best?

Sarah catalyzed her quest into two decades of personal growth, healing, and high performance—becoming more energized, productive, and connected than ever as part of Heroic’s inaugural Coach Class I in 2019. 5. Community highlights

A few favorite energy-focused highlights from another week of moving from Theory to Practice to Mastery, Together!

  • John celebrating his birthday with a physical challenge: For his birthday, John decided to push himself with a physical challenge. Despite his prior-longest bike ride being 16.5 miles, he challenged himself to complete 26 miles—one for each year of his life.
  • Briony supporting others to tackle big, audacious goals: “It was incredible to witness the raw human spirit…” Briony shared about her experience volunteering to support the London to Brighton bike ride, one she first completed many years ago. A heartfelt reminder of the importance to encourage and support others in reaching their potential.
  • Cameron conquering obstacles, with community: After hearing about a local obstacle course race, Cameron rallied his community (including his 62-year-old mom) to compete with him, even though many were “terrified” to do so. Afterwards, he called it “One of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.” A powerful example of bringing community together to do hard things! 💪
